A Tricky Material

Its Selection. Since ancient Egyptian civilization, bone has been used to create small accessories and jewels. As it is porous and its colour nonhomogeneous, this temperamental material needs to be rigorously selected. Indeed, only a minor part of it will be suited for carving.

Technique. Bone sculptures take shape by means of an ancient marquetry technique consisting in carving the different elements separately, then assembling them as a vivid whole.
